ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A seven-run third inning led the University of Michigan baseball team to a 9-5 win over Central Michigan on Wednesday afternoon (May 8) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.

Michigan (26-23) had every starter tally a hit, with Kyle Dernedde leading the way with three. Jonathan Kim also had a multi-hit game and tallied two runs alongside Collin Priest who homered in the contest. Seven different Wolverines drove in a run, led by Caruso's two. Eamon Horwedel (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless relief innings.

Central Michigan (15-33) scored in the opening frame on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. U-M tied the game in the bottom of the first with Kim reaching and later scoring on errors. The Chippewas retook the lead in the top of the second with a two-run single and led 3-1 after two.

The Wolverine stormed back in the bottom of the third after Horwedel kept CMU off the board in the top half. Kim led off the inning with a single and moved to third on a Mitch Voit double. A sacrifice fly from Stephen Hrustich brought Kim home, then the next seven batters reached base on a combination of a walk, two doubles -- one from Cole Caruso to give Michigan the lead -- and four singles to score six more runs and held an 8-3 advantage.

Priest added to the Wolverines' lead in the bottom of the fourth with a 395-foot opposite-field home run to left. Horwedel exited the game in the top of the fifth with a 9-3 lead and four U-M pitchers held the Chippewas scoreless for the next four innings.

CMU mustered a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, but was unable to come any closer and U-M closed out the 9-5 win.

Michigan will play host to Purdue this weekend in a three-game Big Ten series at Ray Fisher Stadium. The series opener is sheduled for Friday (May 10) at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on B1G+.
