Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford have returned to Manchester United training ahead of their Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday.

Martinez, 26, has not featured since United’s 1-1 draw at Brentford in March due to a calf strain. The defender has been limited to just 11 appearances in all competitions due to a number of injuries throughout the season.

He missed almost four months due to a foot injury sustained in September before suffering a knee injury just four games into his return in a 3-0 victory against West Ham United.

United manager Erik ten Hag has previously stressed how much United have missed Martinez throughout the season, with his side conceding 81 goals in all competitions, the most they have shipped since the 1976-77 campaign.

Rashford, meanwhile, has not played since United’s FA Cup semi-final victory against Coventry City in April, but the club has said he “is closing on a return to action”, and a landmark 400th senior appearance. He has played 40 games across all competitions, scoring eight goals and assisting five times.

The return of both players will come as a boost to Ten Hag, who has previously suggested that the number of injuries United have had this season has been “concerning”.

Earlier this month, defender Harry Maguire was ruled out for around three weeks with a muscle injury sustained in training. The England international, 31, has a chance of returning for the FA Cup final against Manchester City and is expected to fully recover in time for this summer’s European Championship, which begins in Germany on June 14.

His absence adds to United’s defensive injury list, with Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Willy Kambwala, and Tyrell Malacia also sidelined.
