Chelsea plotting to sign Jan Oblak – sources

Chelsea are plotting a move for Atletico Madrid ace Jan Oblak as they look to solve their goalkeeping issues this summer, sources have told Football Insider

Oblak has been a long-term target for Chelsea after a number of shot-stoppers have failed to make the grade at Stamford Bridge in recent years.

The La Liga side could be willing to let the Slovenian international leave this summer as they look to boost their transfer kitty despite his contract not expiring until 2028.

Football Insider previously revealed the Blues are eyeing a potential move for Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale after he’s lost his place in the starting lineup at the Emirates.

A deal for Oblak, however, could be easier to get over the line and the 31-year-old would be an undoubted upgrade on current options Dorde Petrovic and Robert Sanchez.

Chelsea could look to sign Jan Oblak

It seems increasingly likely Chelsea will have a new man in between the sticks come the start of next season.

The Blues have endured a largely difficult campaign despite their revival in recent weeks, but their defensive frailties have still been laid bare for all to see.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have conceded 59 goals this season – the ninth-highest record in the Premier League.

That has partly been down to the club not having a consistent number one, with Petrovic and Sanchez sharing the minutes throughout the campaign.

A deal for Oblak would see Chelsea sign a keeper who has kept 204 clean sheets in 442 appearances for Atletico, 13 of which have come this season.

Ramsdale could present another option for Pochettino after Football Insider revealed last month he is likely to leave Arsenal this summer.

The Argentine boss will be keen to get a reliable shot-stopper through the door as he looks to kick on at Stamford Bridge next season.
