Celtic v Rangers: Alan Hutton drops ‘brutally honest’ verdict

Celtic could deal a brutal blow to Rangers’ hope of winning the SPFL title if they can take all three points from the Old Firm at Parkhead.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Alan Hutton explained that a home victory would put the title beyond doubt, giving Rangers no chance of a recovery.

He detailed that, given the strength of Brendan Rodgers’ side’s goal difference, even a win for the visitors would leave them with a challenge.

This could land a huge blow to the Ibrox club, given their high hopes of winning a domestic treble this season.

If they can beat their rivals to the SPFL title, it will also hand Brendan Rodgers’ side a most heading into the Scottish Cup final.

Pressure on Rangers as Celtic could end title challenge at Parkhead

Cyriel Dessers has been tipped as the main concern for Celtic to deal with after Frank McAvennie warned Football Insider he could cause problems for Liam Scales.

However, Hutton thinks Celtic will have enough about them to pull away at the top of the league.

No, I don’t, to be brutally honest,” he told Football Insider when asked if he thinks Rangers could bounce back from a defeat at Parkhead.

I think that’s where the pressure comes from Rangers’ side, they have to go and win. If they don’t, I can’t see anything else happening.

Yes, both teams have got a difficult game, they have to go down to Kilmarnock and Rangers have got Hearts, but I think they’ll have enough to get over the line.

The big one is coming at the weekend and I think that result will pretty much determine it.

Even if Rangers go and win, the goal difference is still there, so they’ve still got a challenge on their hands.

If Celtic win, I think they’re too far in front.”
