Chelsea at risk of devastating ban from multiple competitions – sources
Chelsea are at risk of being banned from all Uefa competitions with the club close to breaching financial regulations, sources have told Football Insider.
The Londoners are on track to qualify for European football next season with Mauricio Pochettino’s side rising up to seventh in the Premier League table.
However, Chelsea will be required to comply with Uefa’s financial regulations upon their return to European football.
Uefa’s new “football earnings” system is set to be much stricter than the current Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules with clubs only allowed to lose £35million per season.
Chelsea’s 2022-23 accounts revealed that the club lost a staggering £90million following heavy investment in the transfer window.
Chelsea could face European ban after heavy losses
The Blues are now under huge pressure to cut their losses and comply with Uefa rules next season.
Uefa were quick to stamp out the amortisation loophole used by Chelsea under Todd Boehly, with all transfer fees only allowed to be spread over a maximum of five years.
Chelsea will be hit with a ban from all Uefa competitions if they fail to comply with the financial regulations.
As revealed by Football Insider, Premier League rivals Aston Villa have also had to downsize their transfer budget to ensure they can comply with Uefa rules as they prepare for Champions League football.
Competition bans have previously been given out by Uefa to Galatasaray and Juventus for breaching their sustainability rules.
