Mumbai, May 10: In a tragic incident in Mumbai, a 24-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide due to mental harassment from two men, one of whom she met on social media while the other was her boyfriend. The woman, a private tutor and BCom graduate, reportedly jumped from the terrace of her building in Jogeshwari East on May 3.

Following her death, her father filed a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (abetment of suicide) against her boyfriend, Suraj Acharya, and her online acquaintance, Karan Rawal, reported Free Press Journal. Both men are around 25 years old. The victim had informed her parents in October 2023 of her friendship with Acharya and their plans to marry. However, her relationship with Rawal, who she met on social media, became a source of distress. The situation worsened when Rawal demanded money from her, and Acharya began to question her character. The compounded stress reportedly led to her suicide. She was rushed to Kulkarni Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body was later sent for post-mortem.

The Meghwadi police, who arrived at the scene following the incident, have registered a case against both Acharya and Rawal based on her father’s statement. The investigation is ongoing.
