More than 100 large-scale models of much-loved Japanese cartoon character Doraemon will pop up across Hong Kong over the summer as part of the city’s latest efforts to lure tourists.

A source familiar with the arrangements said on Saturday that Victoria Park in Causeway Bay, the Avenue of Stars on the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade and other outdoor sites would welcome the figures.

“It will be the biggest exhibition on Doraemon in Hong Kong,” the insider said, adding the models would feature new designs.

Details of the outdoor exhibits, set to last about two weeks in summer, were expected to be announced by the end of this month as part of the city’s push to attract visitors.

Doraemon, the blue-and-white robotic cat from the popular Japanese manga and animation series, last conquered the city in 2012 when 100 models were showcased outside Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The earlier show was part of the “100 Years Before the Birth of Doraemon” Exhibition, based on the 22nd century robotic cat created by manga master Fujiko F. Fujio in 1969.
