The 2024 Indian Premier League clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens today (May 11) is expected to be hit by rain and here’s the latest weather update for KKR vs MI.

After a torrid summer, rain has finally arrived in Kolkata with heavy thunderstorms and showers in the past week. While it has provided a respite to the citizens, it has also put a scanner over the upcoming IPL 2024 game in the city, which will be the last match at Eden Gardens this year.

Kolkata gear up to face Mumbai Indians in the reverse fixture on Saturday but heavy showers are predicted for the match, which could affect the proceedings.

Both Mumbai Indians and Kolkata also had to cancel their training sessions a few times over the last few days due to the weather.

IPL 2024: KKR vs MI Latest weather updates

8.45 pm local time: The match will begin at 9.15 pm. The toss will be at 9 pm local time. It will be a 16-over-a-side match.

8:35 pm local time: The rain has stopped and the covers are off. Umpires are scheduled to inspect the conditions at 8:45 pm local time.

7:35 pm local time: Steady drizzle so far. Covers are still on. The latest time to start a five-over game is 10:56 pm local time.

7 pm local time: The toss has been delayed due to rain, which is persistent. The entire ground is covered.

There was scattered rain in different parts of the city on Saturday morning but the weather should be pleasant for the evening. According to AccuWeather, the sky will be “Mostly cloudy” at 7.30 pm local time, when the game is expected to begin. There is only an 11 per cent chance of rain, however.

World Weather Online predicts slight rain around 8 pm local time, which should clear away in a couple of hours.

What happens if KKR vs MI is washed out?

If the match is washed out, KKR will become the first team to qualify for the 2024 IPL playoffs. Kolkata currently have 16 points from 11 games and are on top of the table.

A washout will have dire consequences for Mumbai, on the other hand, as they will officially be knocked out of the 2024 IPL. Mumbai have won only four games from 12 matches and can get to maximum of 11 if the clash does not take place.
