SUV slips out of gear, rolls across sports field in Cohasset

A car with two young children inside, but no driver, slipped out of gear and rolled down a steep hill in Cohasset and across a sports field where several young children were playing, according to police.

The 2017 Chevrolet Suburban went through a chain link fence before stopping in a yard Saturday morning, Cohasset police said.

Around 10:40 a.m., police received reports of an “out of control” vehicle driving through a sports field at the town’s middle school where kindergarten-aged children were playing lacrosse, police said in a Facebook post.

Coaches and parents got the kids out of the vehicle’s path as it moved through the field before stopping near 150 Pond St.

The two small children were in car seats and were treated for minor injuries along with a coach who was hit by the car, police said.

Police said no one was taken to the hospital.

No charges have been filed as of Saturday evening. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
