How does the NBA Draft lottery work?

The 14 teams that missed this year's postseason have all been assigned odds for the No. 1 overall pick based on their regular season records.

The two teams with the worst records (Detroit and Washington) each have a 14.0 percent chance of landing the top pick. Charlotte won the tiebreaker with Portland, so it has a 13.3 percent chance of landing the top pick, while Portland has a 13.2 percent chance. The numbers get progressively smaller for the teams with higher winning percentages.

In terms of the drawing itself, it will be held in a private room just before the ABC broadcast begins. After the drawing is complete, the results will be placed into envelopes and read during the broadcast.
