Micah Richards responds to Gary Lineker’s Tottenham-Arsenal question that has everyone talking

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are two of the fiercest rivals in the Premier League.

The north London derby is one of the most-watched and eagerly anticipated games in English football.

You could even argue that out of all the derby matches across the Premier League, the Arsenal and Tottenham games, wherever it is played, are the most entertaining.

That was proven when Arsenal rocked up to their neighbours’ backyard recently and secured a 3-2 north London derby win.

That was a huge three points for Mikel Arteta and his players because it boosted his side’s Premier League title hopes.

Tottenham blew their chance to, not only increase their chances of securing Champions League football, but also stop the possible outcome of Arsenal becoming champions of England after nearly two decades.

After Spurs beat Burnley 2-1 on Saturday, Gary Lineker asked Micah Richards on Match of the Day if Ange Postecoglou’s side could do their bitter rivals a favour by beating Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s side had moved to the top of the Premier League table hours earlier by beating Fulham 4-0 and destiny is in their hands to make it four-in-row.

But everyone is talking about that possible scenario of Tottenham helping Arsenal out, because if they do, you then back the Gunners to beat Everton on the final day and get the job done.

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City

“Can they win the title for Arsenal on Tuesday,” asked Lineker after Tottenham beat Burnley.

Richards responded: “What are you suggesting, Gary?” The MOTD presenter added: “By beating Manchester City.”

Richards then stated: “They need to focus on themselves for the Champions League. They need to beat Man City and see if they want to catch Villa.”

Tottenham’s Champions League hopes

First of all, Arsenal need to do their job on Sunday by beating an out-of-sorts Manchester United team.

It would just be something if Arsenal were beaten by Manchester United because then even a point would be enough for Man City to become champions on Tuesday night – and that might also suit Spurs in their top-four battle with Aston Villa.

You still hand the advantage to Villa in the Champions League race, they need to win one of their remaining two matches – Liverpool at home and Crystal Palace away – and they will be playing against Europe’s elite next season.

But Unai Emery’s side are in an injury crisis with only 11 senior players fit, played on Thursday night in Europe and got knocked out.

All in all, this is going to be a very tasty ending to the season.
