Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on Bukayo Saka, who ‘should be fine’ despite limping off in Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Manchester United on Sunday.

Saka was replaced in the 82nd minute at Old Trafford as Arteta brought on Gabriel Jesus for the closing stages, sparking fears over a possible injury.

The England international, arguably Arsenal’s most important player this season, fell awkwardly down a steep slope behind one of the goals and hit the hoardings.

Saka made it back onto the pitch but slumped to the ground as Arteta decided to give his star winger a rest ahead of next week’s final-day clash against Everton.

Arteta was quizzed about Saka’s limping – which saw the player ridiculed on social media by some rival fans – after Arsenal’s victory and said: ‘He should be fine.’

Saka suffered a nasty gash to his leg in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth just over a week ago which made him a fitness concern for the game at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old was named in the starting XI, though, as Arsenal picked up all three points to ensure the Premier League title race will go down to the final day.

‘Arsenal players will be in the dressing room saying, ‘How easy was that?’ – they hardly got into second gear!’ Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane said.

‘They knew when they got their goal and are so solid at the back it was game over. I bet Arsenal couldn’t believe how bad Manchester United were.’

Arsenal legend Paul Merson added: ‘I thought [Arsenal] played in second gear. Very disappointed with Man Utd – I don’t think they did enough at all.

‘Arsenal will never have an easier game than that, to be honest. It was too easy and they didn’t play well at all.

‘I didn’t really think [Arsenal] controlled the game. Man Utd had enough of the ball around the box – if they had that final pass or Garnacho had got his head up a few times or picked the right pass but they ran out of ideas.

‘I thought they done a job and that’s what you’ve got to do at the end of the season. The goal difference will be irrelevant now. It’s a good win where Arsenal don’t usually win.’
