Senior outfielder belts 16th home run of the year in Cougars loss
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Houston Baseball team dropped the series finale on Sunday at Kansas 9-6 in the Cougars final road Big 12 Conference game of the season.
Senior Cary Arbolida hit a home run for the second consecutive game and third of the series when he smoked a line drive over the tall wall in center field for his team-leading 16th home run of the year in the eighth inning.
In his first Big 12 start, shortstop Anthony Avalos delivered his first multi-hit game with a single and double while driving in two runs.
Houston (25-26, 7-19 Big 12) tied the game in the third inning after three consecutive two-out singles plated a run.
A three-run fourth inning gave Houston its first lead before a five-run bottom of the fourth handed the lead back to Kansas (29-18, 15-12 Big 12).
The Cougars scraped together a pair of late runs in the eighth and ninth inning when Arbolida hit his third home run of the series and then on an RBI double from former Jayhawk Anthony Tulimero.

Houston will battle Sam Houston on Tuesday in the third and finale Don Sanders Cup matchup of the year at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.
