Former Dodgers Top Prospect Recently Acquired by NL West Rival Already Traded Away
The San Francisco Giants dealt former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher and top prospect Mitch White to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday for cash considerations, the club announced.
This marks the second time White has been dealt in the past 20 days. He was 1-0 with a 7.63 ERA in seven combined relief appearances with the Toronto Blue Jays and Giants. He made three appearances with the Giants after being acquired from Toronto on April 20. He allowed eight hits, five walks, and seven runs in 5.1 innings.
The San Jose native began his major league career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he first took the mound in August 2020. During his tenure with the Dodgers, White made 14 starts and appeared in a total of 38 games, leaving the team with a 3-5 record and a respectable 3.58 ERA over 105.2 innings.
His luck turned for the worse when he began playing for Toronto, holding a 7.26 ERA in parts of three seasons. He was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on April 16 and he is out of options, which is why he has been designated for assignment twice already this year.
White was a second-round pick of the Dodgers at No. 65 overall out of Santa Clara in the 2016 draft.

Dodgers should have picked up Mitch White when he was first available. Trade for Arenado, move Muncy to 2d base. Arenado would be an improvement in the lineup over Lux. Outman has to go to OKC when Hayward returns. The alternative – DFA Chris Taylor — is not as good an option. They would completely lose Taylor whereas this way Outman remains available to call up when there next is an injury. Ignore the contracts. It is either keep Outman in the organization (while at OKC) or lose Taylor. [Although Taylor is of negative value, unfortunately, it appears, for the rest of his contract and it is hard to choose which of the two hurts the team more, Taylor or Outman, at this time. There is more reason to think that Outman might be of some minimal value rather than Taylor, later in the year. So to DFA Taylor is not necessarily crazy, but keeping him and sending Outman down is expedient at this time. The salaries are sunk costs. It is just lose Taylor or keep Outman, but at OKC, once Heyward returns. Pages for center field.
