Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will be hoping for a big end to the season as Ineos weigh up his future at Old Trafford.

United lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Sunday, failing to bounce back from the 4-0 thrashing at Crystal Palace.

Ten Hag has major injuries to deal with, as has been the case for most of the season, but he faces three huge games in an attempt to save his job.

The Premier League season ends this week as United host Newcastle United before heading to Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend.

United need points in the coming days or there will be no European football at Old Trafford next season.

Then Ten Hag leads United in to the FA Cup final against Manchester City, looking for revenge after losing the same fixture a year ago.

Ten Hag is looking to prove himself to Ineos amid swirling rumours over a potential managerial change and another name is gathering momentum.

Thomas Frank eyed by Manchester United

Last week, it was Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel being heavily linked with a move to United this summer.

It’s another Thomas this week but it’s Brentford boss Thomas Frank now.

The Telegraph report that Frank is a ‘strong contender’ for the United job if Ineos do decide to axe Frank.

Frank allegedly already has a strong relationship with Ineos and chief Sir Dave Brailsford, who will take on a key role at United.

Frank is understood to have ‘admirers’ inside United and Ineos view him as a good fit for the after at Old Trafford.

The 50-year-old has again kept Brentford in the Premier League and his work in West London has understandably earned huge plaudits and real respect.

Frank embarrassed United with a 4-0 victory in 2022 and saw his side lay siege to the United goal during a 1-1 draw back in March.

The step up to United is enormous though and some will worry that Frank has no experience of managing a club even close to United in terms of expectations levels.

Thomas Frank profiled

Frank featured in the amateur amateur scene in his playing days, turning out for hometown club Frederiksværk.

The Dane began coaching with Frederiksværk too, before moving on to Hvidovre, B93 and Lyngby.

The first major move materialised in 2008 as Frank joined the Danish national team ranks as the boss of their Under-16’s and Under-17’s.

Frank moved up the ranks to the Under-19’s in 2012 before becoming Brondby boss.

Frank won nearly 45% of his games in charge of Brondby but left the club in bizarre circumstances.

Brondby chairman Jan Bech Andersen was caught criticising Frank on a fan forum whilst using his son’s account.

Frank decided to quit and move on, becoming a coach at Brentford behind Dean Smith.

When Smith joined Aston Villa in 2018, Frank stepped up and guided the Bees to promotion in 2021.

Frank has continued to impress in the Premier League and has been praised as ‘really smart’ by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The time may be right for Frank to chase a new challenge after more than five years in the Brentford job with Ineos seemingly interested.

A big name like Tuchel may be more appealing on paper but Ineos will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of improvements at United and if they think Frank is the right man, they won’t hesitate to go for him.
