‘The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power’ Season 2 Trailer Has Sauron On The Rise

This is a good time for JRR Tolkien fans. Quickly following on the announcement of a new Gollum movie led by Andy Serkis and Peter Jackson comes the trailer for season two of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Prime Video scored themselves a big hit viewership-wise on season one. But given it’s the most expensive series ever based on one of the most popular franchises, they might be disappointed it didn’t have more of a cultural impact. Perhaps the arrival of Sauron will change that.

The big baddie Sauron arrives in the new trailer for The Rings of Power season two, played by Charlie Vickers. In the first season, the actual identity of Sauron, second-in-command to the Dark lord Morgoth, was a central mystery. Now that he’s been revealed as Halbrand, human companion to the elf Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Sauron continues on his quest to create the Rings of Power.

Here’s a synopsis: Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season 1’s epic scope and ambition, Season 2 of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.

New additions to the cast for season two include Ciaran Hinds, Rory Kinnear, Sam Hazeldine, Ben Daniels, Gabriel Akuwudike, Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Yasen “Zates” Atour, Stuart Bowman, Gavi Singh Chera, William Chubb, Kevin Eldon, Amelia Kenworthy, Will Keen, Selina Lo, Calam Lynch, Tanya Moodie, Nia Towle, and Nicholas Woodeson.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season two hits Prime Video on August 29th.
