DBU Tennis Head Coach Wade Morgan

DBU's Morgan Named South Central Region Wilson ITA Coach of the Year

Every year, the ITA recognizes coaches and players for their excellence on the court and in their communities throughout the season. The Wilson ITA Coach of the Year award recognizes a coach who has exhibited outstanding leadership in ways that contribute to on and off-court team performance. This year Coach Wade Morgan has been named the South Central Region Wilson ITA Coach of the Year.

Under the guidance of head Coach Wade Morgan, the Lady Patriots finished the season with a  21-8 overall record.  This season, Morgan has led the women's tennis team to their first appearance in the Lone Star Conference tournament finals in program history, their first NCAA appearance in eight years, and their second in program history. With their 21 victories this year, the Lady Patriots had the highest winning percentage this season in program history. They also brought the program their first fall regional title while producing the best results in the Fall ITA Cup National Tournament in program history. The Lady Patriots finished the season with their first win over a top 5 national ranked program in team tennis.

Along with their success on the courts, the team has plenty of success in the community and the classroom. Under the direction of Coach Morgan, the tennis teams performed over 380 community service hours this school year by working with organizations such as the A.I.M. initiative and Operation Christmas Child and volunteering in the community.

The program's success reflects Coach Morgan's dedication and determination, which he puts into the team every day. "It's an honor to be recognized among some of the great coaches in our region, but I view this as a coaching staff award," said DBU Tennis Head Coach Wade Morgan. Everyone plays a role; it's a collective effort, and I am most proud of our players who showed this year that putting culture first will result in team success. The future is bright as we move forward."
