Joe Alwyn Touches Down in France Just Days After Taylor Swift's Paris Shows

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors

There's something almost poetic about two ships passing in the night — which is essentially what just happened with exes Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn.

The 14-time Grammy winner famously kicked off the European leg of her Eras Tour last week by performing four sold-out, headline-making nights in Paris on May 9, 10, 11 and 12. Alwyn, for his part, just landed in the south of France, touching down at the airport in Nice on Thursday, May 16. (The actor is in town for the Cannes Film Festival, which will world premiere his new film, Kinds of Kindness, in which he stars opposite his ex's longtime bestie, Emma Stone.) Swift will perform her next Eras shows in Stockholm, Sweden, beginning on May 17.

Alwyn, 34, was greeted both by paparazzi and fans at the airport, smiling and chatting with onlookers while signing autographs. The Harriet star sported a casual look, wearing a tan-colored zip-up jacket over a white tee, which he paired with jeans, sneakers, and opaque black sunglasses.

Meanwhile, Swift — who dated Alwyn for six years before the pair called it quits in 2023 — spent her fourth and final Eras performance in Paris paying tribute to boyfriend Travis Kelce with several references, including calling out that it was the 87th show of the Eras Tour. (As fans know, Kelce's number on the Kansas City Chiefs is 87.) The legendary tight end was filmed dancing alongside fellow A-listers like Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper.

"I had a blast at Tay's show," Travis told brother Jason Kelce on their New Heights podcast earlier this week. "Her new rendition of the Eras Tour, I suggest everybody go see it. It is absolutely unbelievable. I enjoyed every bit of it."

Indeed, Swift changed up the set of her Eras Tour in a big way in Paris — adding seven Tortured Poets Department tracks (including "So High School," seemingly a nod to her romance with Travis) as well as multiple costume changes.

Alwyn has also reportedly moved on. The movie star is "dating and happy," a source told earlier this month, adding that he is "focused on work."

The Conversations With Friends actor "certainly doesn't talk poorly about [Taylor]. He was in love with her, and it just didn't work out," the insider added.
