DALLAS, Texas (SMU) -- Three Mustangs will be continuing their season at the NCAA West Outdoor Qualifying Meet with a chance to qualify for the National Championships.

Senior Whitney Williams has extended her last season as a Mustang with her PR time of 53.79 in the 400 at the AAC Outdoor Championships. She will be competing at her third NCAA regional meet.

"I'm super excited to be competing in Arkansas," Williams said. "My training has been going well, and I feel confident heading into this meet."

Funminiyi Olajide has been breaking records this season and is also headed to her third appearance at the NCAA First Round. She is currently ranked ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.59 meters from the AAC Outdoor Championships. Headed into the regional meet, she is looking to punch her ticket to outdoor nationals after qualifying and achieving All-American status during the indoor season.

Kirin Chacchia will be making her debut at the NCAA West Outdoor Qualifying Meet after running the second fastest 400 hurdle race in SMU history. The freshman ran 59.00 to break into the top-48 athletes and qualify for regionals.

"As a freshman, I'm extremely excited to have qualified for regionals – it's more than I could've hoped to do in my first year," Chacchia said. "I'm really looking forward to getting to experience the high level of competition and getting to represent SMU while doing so. My goal is to use the competitive environment to better myself and hopefully run a PB."

The meet will take place in Fayetteville, Arkansas from Wednesday, May 22, to Saturday, May 25. The SMU athletes will compete on Thursday. Olajide will jump at 6 p.m. with Williams running in prelims at 7:25 p.m. and Chacchia running in prelims at 8:20 p.m. Both runners will be racing to qualify for quarterfinals on Saturday.
