Planinsek Records a Commanding Opening Round Victory at the NCAA Singles Championships

The UA junior dropped just three games in the match to earn a spot in the Round of 32
STILLWATER, Okla. –– Alabama's Filip Planinsek dominated his opening round match at the NCAA Singles Championships Monday, dropping just three games over two sets to advance to the Round of 32. No. 29 Planinsek secured an opening-set score of 6-2 against No. 118 Jonas Hartenstein from North Florida before cruising to a 6-1 decision in the second set.
The Match
- A quick start gave Hartenstein a 1-0 advantage in the opening set
- Planinsek responded by winning the next three games to take a 3-1 lead
- Hartenstein used his serve to claim a point and come within one, 3-2, but Planinsek rallied to secure the next three games and win the opening round at 6-2
- Planinsek won four straight games in the second set before a back-and-forth battle fell to the North Florida sophomore
- With a strong response, Planinsek claimed back-to-back games to secure the second round at 6-1 and capture the overall victory

- Planinsek will face Ohio State's Cannon Kingsley in Tuesday's Round of 32
- It will be the second meeting between the two this season after Planinsek and Kingsley went head-to-head at the ITA National Indoor Championships
- Planinsek won that battle off of two seven-point tiebreakers for a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) score
- Planinsek, a junior, holds a national singles ranking of 29th, while the fifth-year Buckeye ranks 17th
