Danny Murphy says he can’t ‘ever see’ Liverpool star leave ahead of Arne Slot’s arrival

Arne Slot has finally been confirmed by Liverpool.

The Jurgen Klopp era is officially over and Liverpool enter waters they haven’t been in for nearly a decade now.

There is no time to waste because there is a lot to deal with, including the upcoming summer transfer window.

A lot of eyes will be on who Arne Slot will bring in and whether he will dip into markets he knows very well following his success at Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.

But you could argue that the most important thing he does is keep certain players that could prove to be crucial to him settling down at the club.

A lot of talk is around Saudi Arabia target Mohamed Salah or the ice-cool Virgil van Dijk. Perhaps two of Liverpool’s most important players.

But Danny Murphy was keen to speak about the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold – his current deal at Anfield expires in 2025.

Sources provided an update to HITC on Alexander-Arnold’s future, with Murphy comparing himself to the boyhood Red.

The former Liverpool midfielder thinks if a contract offer was put on the table, then he thinks the all-action right-back would sign it, as he told talkSPORT.

Alexander-Arnold made his debut in 2016 and he has been one of the success stories of the Klopp era winning every trophy possible.

Murphy added that, whilst the player should bide his time and wait to talk with Slot, he can’t ever see the England international anywhere else than on Merseyside.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool future

“I am not a scouser, but I am like Trent, brought up a Liverpool fan, and I would never ever not sign a contract if they offered me one,” said Murphy.

“But I don’t know where his mind is at. I think he is probably similar. I don’t think he ever really sees himself going. He might be different, but I don’t think he sees himself going anywhere else. The reality is, the sensible thing would be to wait because the new manager, highly unlikely, but the new manager might not fancy him at right-back defensively. I think that’s highly unlikely.

“I was going to say if he doesn’t fancy him at right-back, he might play him in midfield. I think we might see Trent sign because he will have a sit-down with the manager and the manager I think might say to him you are going to play in midfield.”

Where will Arne Slot play Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Interestingly enough, ahead of Euro 2024, fans might get to see Alexander-Arnold used in the middle of the park by Gareth Southgate.

That’s a role he has deployed by England and many, over the years, have called for him to be played in midfield by Liverpool.

Klopp avoided that, but could Slot now change all of that?

One of the constant things that gets thrown at Alexander-Arnold is the defensive side of his game and how it has been a weakness.

But with Liverpool entering a new era, so could their star right-back by now transforming into a midfielder.
