Second XI T20: Somerset make it two out of two

Somerset claimed an impressive 50-run win over Warwickshire in the Second XI T20 competition today at Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground, Portland Road.

Somerset won the toss and elected to bat first.

The visitors slipped to 20 for three but a 90-run partnership between Will Smeed and Ben Green got the innings back on track. Both players made 49, Smeed from 24 balls and Green from 28, and the innings was given late impetus by Oscar Coleman man whose 19 off seven balls helped Somerset to post a total of 192 for nine from their 20 overs.

The Warwickshire reply got off tho the worst possible start when Amir Khan fell to the first ball of the innings and that set the tone.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and no batter was given the opportunity to stamp their authority on the game. Indeed, the host’s top scorer was Sinel Gunarathne who managed 31, with only three players scoring in excess of 20.

The hosts were eventually dismissed for 142 from 19.4 overs as Somerset claimed a second impressive win in as many days.

There were two wickets apiece for Alfie Ogborne, Sonny Baker and Ben Green.
