Graeme Souness believes £375,000 a week Man United ace should leave the club this summer

Manchester United are set to begin a summer clearout under new minority owners INEOS and one player’s future looks to be unclear.

It’s fair to say that the majority of the Manchester United team has underperformed under Erik ten Hag with the pressure on the Dutchman cranking up as the Red Devils finished eighth in the Premier League.

For United forward Marcus Rashford, his future at the club looks to be unclear with the 26-year-old scoring just seven Premier League goals for the Red Devils and the academy graduate has lost the patience of the club’s supporters.

Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the Englishman according to the iPaper and it seems that former Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and Southampton boss Graeme Souness believes that the time is right for Rashford to seek out a new challenge.

Souness on Rashford

The Englishman’s future at Old Trafford looks to be uncertain ahead of a summer of change in Manchester and Souness believes that the time may be right for Rashford to leave United.

“Under normal circumstances, you don’t leave Manchester United to go to PSG,” Souness told talkSPORT. “He is from Manchester, it is his team, but for his improvement, I think he should leave.

“He has been in the first team for five years, and he has had two good years. Why has he had only two good years? You start off. It should be a natural progression. I am not just talking about goalscoring, but his all-round play. It looks like he is an unhappy boy. It looks like he is carrying an enormous weight on his shoulders.”

Rashford is not playing with the same freedom that he possessed during the previous campaign under Ten Hag and it is unclear how he fits into the Dutchman’s plan at the club, if the former Ajax boss remains at Old Trafford past Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City.

The striker earns a reported £375,000 per week at United after signing a new deal last summer.

Rashford could be the ideal Kylian Mbappe replacement for PSG

After a poor season at United back in 2022, the Englishman looked to be of interest to French giants Paris Saint Germain but he stayed at the club and had a superb season at Old Trafford.

With Kylian Mbappe leaving the French giants in the summer, there could be an opening at the Parc Des Princes and Rashford, despite his poor season in front of goal, could be the exact type of player to fit that role.

The signing of Rashford may well not be enough to replace Mbappe, who scored 27 goals in 29 Ligue 1 games, but it would certainly be a smart signing and he could excel under Luis Enrique.
