The fallout from the weekend’s exposure of a WhatsApp group which saw a Greater Manchester MP sacked his job as Health Minister has now seen three Labour councillors in Tameside resign

Claire Reid, Jack Naylor and George Newton, all of who represent Denton wards have stepped down following the revelations over the posts on the Group Chat app

A spokesperson for Tameside Labour said told the PA news agency

”Following reports over the weekend of messages shared in a historic WhatsApp group, councillors Reid, Naylor and Newton have decided to step away from their executive duties at Tameside Council whilst an investigation by the Labour Party is underway.”

Former Tameside Councillor Oliver Ryan who was elected to Parliament as MP for Burnley issued an apology earlier for comments he made on the group chat
