SHOT: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent refuses to admit Donald Trump’s billionaire-first budget will add to the national debt, saying “it remains to be seen” …
Alan Rappeport, New York Times: “‘It remains to be seen,’ Bessent said when asked if the GOP tax bill will add to the national debt.”
CHASER: … while economists are sounding the alarm on this disastrous bill’s $3 trillion price tag, which will explode the deficit and fuel inflation while leaving 16 million more Americans uninsured.
Washington Post: “The Congressional Budget Office projected that new borrowing the legislation would force the government to make would also lead to $550 billion more in interest payments. That would raise the overall price tag of the measure, titled the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, to $3 trillion over the next decade.”
Washington Post: “The boost to the national debt from President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax bill could add fresh fuel to inflation just as his tariff policies are already pushing prices up, mainstream economists are warning.”
Associated Press: “Roughly 16 million people by 2034 would lose health coverage and become uninsured because of the Medicaid cuts, the bill’s failure to extend enhanced premium tax credits for ACA marketplace coverage, and other harmful ACA marketplace changes, according to estimates from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).”
