June 14, 2025
DNC Chair Ken Martin and DNC Veterans and Military Families Council Co-Chairs Terron Sims and Sue Hoppin issued the following joint statement on the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army:
“Today, we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, a force that has stood on the frontlines of the fight for our nation’s security and freedom for two and a half centuries. The Army has answered the call of duty, from defending our borders to securing peace and liberty around the globe. Through every challenge, every conflict, and every triumph, our Army soldiers have shown dedication to the ideals of freedom, justice, and democracy.
“The Army’s legacy is built on the courage of countless men and women who have served with distinction in every corner of the world. From the Revolutionary War to today’s global missions, the Army has played a pivotal role in shaping our nation’s history and defending our nation from threats both foreign and domestic. Each generation has evolved to meet new challenges, ensuring that our military remains the strongest in the world.
“As Democrats, we remain committed to supporting our Army and all members of our armed forces, and also taking care of our veterans after they’ve served – because we must always keep our promises to those who signed their names to defend our country. On this historic anniversary, we reflect on the generations of soldiers who made profound sacrifices to keep Americans safe. We will continue to invest in the resources, training, and equipment our troops need to succeed and ensure they have the best care and benefits when they return home. Our dedication to our service members, veterans and their families is steadfast, and we will honor their sacrifices by providing them with the opportunities they deserve. On this anniversary, we stand united in gratitude for 250 years of service.”
