'NO CHOICE' Nigel Farage threatens to BOYCOTT second Brexit referendum

NIGEL Farage revealed he will use a certain protest tactic if there was a second referendum on Brexit where the public had to choose between remaining in the European Union or Theresa May’s deal.

Brexit: Farage claims he would BOYCOTT second referendum

Nigel Farage declared he would boycott a second referendum, if it only allowed people to vote between remaining in the EU and Theresa May’s Brexit deal. The former Ukip leader also mentioned the second referendum seems to be “gaining momentum” within the Labour Party. Speaking on his LBC radio show, Mr Farage said: “What would the question be? Nobody has satisfactorily managed to answer that. Some even suggest it should be this deal or Remain, in which case, I’d simply have to boycott the second referendum because I wouldn’t be given the choice that I want.

“Is this gaining momentum? Well I think it is gaining some momentum within the Labour Party, but I think that’s what will happen if this deal doesn’t go through.”

He added: “I suspect the Labour Party then are going to move to that position, regardless of how you voted out there.

“There are five million of you, who voted Leave and who even voted Labour in 2017.”

The comments come as former Tory Education Secretary, Justine Greening, warned a People’s Vote could be organised and held in 22 weeks, on May 30, 2019.

Ms Greening called for Article 50 to be extended by four months to July 29. She told an event in London: "I've worked out that you could plan and hold a referendum in 22 weeks.

"We could do that in 22 weeks. We could actually, after this vote on December 11, hold a referendum, potentially, on May 30 next year.

"We could, alongside that, choose to extend Article 50, I've suggested, by four months to July 29."

Ms Greening was talking at an event alongside Boris Johnson’s brother, Jo Johnson.

Brexit: Why doesn’t the Government LISTEN says Nigel Dodds

The former Transport Minister warned Conservatives risk an election disaster on the scale of 1997 if they back Mrs May's plans.

He said: “The Prime Minister’s worst of all worlds deal is not only the wrong choice for the country, it is also the wrong choice for the Conservative Party.

“Even if we could unite around the Prime Minister’s deal, implementing a botched Brexit that sees us cede control and makes every region of the country poorer than it would otherwise be, would surely risk doing serious damage to the Conservative Party.

“The 'worst of all worlds Tory Brexit' label will become an albatross around our necks for years to come.”
