A former Dancing on Ice winner has opened up about what she earned as a professional skater for the ITV show. Alex Murphy says she earns more working as a social media influencer than she did on the ice.

Alex joined the ITV skating competition in 2018, competing in three seasons before being let go in 2020. Since leaving the show, she has gone on to work as a full-time content creator across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook.

The 34-year-old Boston-born star lives with her boyfriend, YouTube star Paul Klein, in Hertfordshire and has found success on social media with her humorous videos. Speaking to the Financial Mail on Sunday, she described being let go from Dancing on Ice as a "blessing in disguise".

She explained: "I was let go from Dancing On Ice in 2020 just a few months after winning it with Joe Swash. It proved a blessing in disguise because that was when I built my social media career.

"The money I earn online is of another calibre compared to skating. I'm on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube and do my own podcasts."

When asked how much she was paid to appear on Dancing on Ice, Alex admitted: "Less than for Halloween On Ice," adding: "You do things for the love of the sport sometimes. I worked on Dancing on Ice for love for the show and felt honoured to have been offered such a great opportunity."

During her time on the show, Alex finished in fourth position with both Love Island star Kem Cetinay and singer Brian McFadden. In 2020, she won the series with Joe Swash after replacing injured pro skater Alexandra Schauman as the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here star's partner in week four.
