A dramatic picture has shown the moment armed police officers arrested two suspects in a Huddersfield street on Thursday.

The drama unfolded on Caldercliffe Road in Berry Brow with one eyewitness claiming at least 11 police vehicles were involved in the operation. A picture seen by Yorkshire Live, which was taken by a resident on the street, shows a man on the floor surrounded by a group of men.

The men are understood to be police officers in plain clothes and the man can be seen on his front with his arms pinned behind his back. All of the men surrounding the man on the floor are wearing jeans and baseball caps. Some appear to be holding guns.

One resident, who did not want to be named, told Yorkshire Live: " I was just making tea with my nanna and I heard all the commotion and looked out of the window. An armed police officer had his gun pointing at the two suspects who looked like 18-19-year-olds.

"We locked the back door and we ran upstairs and looked out of the window. The police must have been here for an hour and a half or so. It must have been a pre-planned operation."

The two suspects are understood to have been pulled from a car and handcuffed in the street. Pictures taken at the scene earlier today show the car, which had had its window smashed on the driver's side, was towed away.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Two arrests have been made as part of an ongoing investigation. Enquiries are continuing."
