Liverpool’s season is about to resume after a lengthy stoppage over the international break.

The Reds have not played a Premier League match since September 3, which was their goalless draw with Everton. Since then, two fixtures have been postponed and there has been a two-week break for international fixtures.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are back in action on Saturday as they host Brighton at Anfield in the league. It’s their first top flight match at home since the win over Newcastle at the end of August.

With the league season set to resume, attention will gradually be shifting onto what Liverpool can achieve this season. The Reds are nine points behind leaders Arsenal and four adrift of the Champions League places, but do have a game in hand.

A website has once again attempted to predict how the final table will look. Respected statistics and analysis website FiveThirtyEight has forecast the final standings in the Premier League this season, based on a complex model which takes into account a host of factors.

They have crunched the numbers and predicted that Liverpool will finish as runners-up in the league table. According to the prediction, the Reds will amass 75 points and finish 12 adrift of predicted winners Manchester City, who are in line for 87 points.

The other top four places are filled by Arsenal in third, four points behind Liverpool. Tottenham Hotspur get the final Champions League spot with 69 points securing fourth place.

In terms of relegation, newly-promoted Nottingham Forest are predicted to finish bottom of the table with 30 points. Bournemouth and Leicester City are the other two teams tipped to be relegated to the Championship, with the latter dropping down on goal difference with Everton narrowly avoiding slipping down a division.
