The A66 has reopened in both directions following a serious collision yesterday evening (Wednesday, October 5). The incident occured between the A67 near Bowes and A1(M) Scotch Corner.

Traffic was diverted while emergency services dealt with the incident and cleared the road. North Yorkshire Police are investigating the collision.

According to National Highways the road reopened in both directions shortly before 1am this morning.

Westbound - please use the below routes, in reverse order.

Eastbound diversion route

Eastbound via the A67 to Barnard Castle. Continue on the A67 to the Coniscliffe Road B6280 Roundabout.

At this Roundabout either follow the solid diamond symbol for the A1M northbound (join the A1M at J58, Burtree)

For the A1M Southbound, follow the solid square symbol to Blackwell and then join the A66 and A66M to rejoin the A1M at Scotch Corner.
