He's the rising star of the 'drill' music scene with a growing fanbase across the country.

Huddersfield artist Booter Bee has amassed over one million views on YouTube and has just released a new track, 100 Degrees, along with a video that can be viewed on various platforms. The video for 100 Degrees has had over 110,000 views on YouTube in three weeks.

But not everyone is impressed with Booter Bee as his lyrics tell ultra-violent stories of gang warfare, stabbings, and shootings, with references to tensions and violence between various factions in Fartown and Birkby, Huddersfield. His videos contain disclaimers to say the "characters are fictional" and that the artist "does not condone violence."

Those who appear in his videos - some of them filmed in Fartown - cover their faces with balaclavas, sunglasses and hoodies. The imagery and lyrics could be described as violent and intimidating.

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman confessed to knowing nothing about Booter Bee but said his lyrics sounded 'pretty awful' and not deserving of being given a platform.

The Labour MP said he would be looking into the matter in greater depth.

Mr Sheerman said: "My constituents are most concerned about violent crime, drugs and gangs. Anything that glorifies any of these things I deplore. I don't think they should be given time on any social media platform."

Concerns over such music and videos have been heightened in light of recent knife crimes in Huddersfield including the murder of schoolboy Khayri McLean outside his school in Woodhouse Hill, Fartown. Serious concerns have been raised nationally about drill music and its use of violent imagery. Others have praised it for being authentic and for its storytelling.

YorkshireLive approached Booter Bee for comment via his YouTube channel where he has over 6,000 subscribers.

A spokesman for Booter Bee said: "I would firstly like to thank you for showing an interest in the music but in regards to the current situation of what is going on in the town.... he does not want to participate in answering any questions as he feels it is not his place to speak on those situations.

"His music is for strictly for entertainment purposes and it does not correlate to other people's actions.

"What he speaks about in his music is not for pinpointing or to be used as injustice towards people it is strictly for his fans and himself to listen to and enjoy the different genre of music.

"He does not feel comfortable talking to the media and does not want his intentions to be come across in the wrong way and does not want any involvement in the media."

Booter Bee's YouTube channel says: "Booter Bee is proving to be one of Huddersfield's most promising upcoming drill artists, representing Fartown and the daily lives of this age.

"Booter Bee focuses on his craft, leaving nothing to the imagination, which are filled with vivid imagery and aggressive ideas.

"Booter Bee has amassed over 1 million views on Youtube, starting with his first single, 'Bootings', which was released in 2020, with many more following and succeeding again, showing the growth and popularity of his releases."

Some of Booter Bee's videos contain a disclaimer that states that they are for entertainment purposes only and that the artist does not condone violence. It says the lyrical content should not be taken literally.

One video has a disclaimer that says: "All characters in this motion picture are fictional and shouldn't be taken literal. All props seen in this video are fake and for entertainment purposes only."

Below are some of the lyrics from the Booter Bee track, Separate, that was uploaded to YouTube in May. The lyrics have been taken from the website genius.com

Fartown block's been winnin' the beef/Can't tell me it's them/Slide to the 2's or the 5 instead/Put bullets in waps and ride on GMs (Load it, load it)/Shoutout bro, got blocks in a box/ And took a shotgun from 19-10

F-Block, Fartown's been lettin' it rip (Bow)/Check them gun stats (Check them)/Everyone knows that Booter's a gunman
I cheffed 3 yutes, got 2 in their head/One in the back and the feds not stop that/Been there, done that, I ain't no new plate (Nah)
Ever done 3 glides in 2 days? (Have you?)/Ever let off your mash on Christmas? (Have you?)/Or slapped one of them on new years? (I have)
