Joyriding is not a charge we see often, but troopers said it fits a man they arrested this week. The semitruck traveled in the middle of the night and little did the driver know, he was carrying some extra cargo."It’s so bizarre. We got a call, a 911 call of a semitruck that had just entered Oklahoma from Kansas and the person that called it in said, ‘There appears to be maybe a man or somebody on the back of this truck,’" said Trooper Eric Foster with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. When drivers reported a man riding on the back of a semi on Interstate 35, even first responders were shocked."Is he on the back of the truck, is the door open, is it really a person? Sometimes you know around Halloween maybe they’re putting something, who knows?" Foster said. However, the phone kept ringing."We continued to get more and more and more calls," Foster said.Other drivers flashed their lights to get the driver’s attention."He honestly did not know that there was anything on the back of his trailer, and he’s not going to. There are no mirrors back there to see the back of the trailer. Those trailers are 53 feet long," Foster said. Now, an investigation is underway and the man who went for a joyride is behind bars."We’re looking into why he wanted to leave Kansas so bad," Foster said.OHP said the man claimed he rode the semi in hopes of finding his wife. Now, he’s charged with joyriding and public intoxication."This is just a really unusual scenario but the law was prepared for it. Loitering in or around without permission of the owner, then that is a criminal offense misdemeanor with a sentence of up to one year in the county jail and or a fine of $100 to $500," said James Wirth, an Oklahoma attorney. The suspect’s bond is $2,000 in the Logan County Jail. Both of the charges he faces are misdemeanors.
