PM says it was hard to co-sign giving state awards to some people

October 28th, 2022

It was hard for Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala to co-sign the bestowment of state decorations to some people whom President Milos Zeman decided to award at Prague Castle, the presidential seat, tonight, on the occasion of the national holiday, Fiala told reporters this morning. A number of personalities Zeman will decorate deserve respect, Fiala also said. "I will not assess the selection. There are certainly the names that are indisputable and deserve respect on this list. But there are also some people whose names made my hand and pen heavy when I was co-signing their decorations," Fiala said, but he added that he respected Zeman's selection of the awarded. This is the president's responsibility and his right, he stressed.
