Why Celtic hero Scott Brown grew his HAIR before starting English coaching career & the 3 ex-Hoops heroes he turns to

CELTIC hero Scott Brown made sure to grow out his hair before embarking on his coaching career at Fleetwood Town - just in case his stars got the wrong impression.

Brown isn't averse to administering the odd dose of the hairdryer treatment as manager - in fact he did so shortly before his players made history by taking the Cod Army into the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time with victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

They face a daunting task against Vincent Kompany's Burnley next up but Brown has revealed that he was wary of being seen the wrong way if he rocked up in the Fleetwood changing room with his trademark shaved bald hairstyle.

He told the Daily Record: “It’s a fresh start and I don’t think in my first job I wanted to go in with a skinhead, losing the plot with a lot of English lads and them looking at me going, ‘What are you doing?’.”

While it was Tony Mowbray who made the fateful decision to make Brown Celtic captain, the three managers he is closely associated with are Gordon Strachan, Neil Lennon and Brendan Rodgers.

The Hoops captain admits he has leant on the opinions of all three since embarking on his management career - and he won't hesitate to pick up the phone again ahead of the meeting with Burnley.

He said: “It’s my first job and I’m not ashamed to ask for it [help].

"I’ve spoken to Lenny and I’ve spoken to Gordon and I’ve spoken to Brendan because it’s a big step for me, going from playing football straight into management. I’ve picked Brendan’s brains a lot.

"I’m always chatting to Lenny as well and I’ve spoken to Gordon as well. It’s small things they might help me with.

"Things I maybe don’t see or maybe don’t think of.

“I have a good coaching staff here too, all looking at things from a different angle. I’m not always going to say I’m right but at the end of the day I have the last decision.”
