“Way Overpaid” : NHL Fans Shocked After Reports Emerge That Detroit Red Wings Will Re-Sign Dylan Larkin at Over $8.5 Million

With the March 3 NHL trade deadline approaching closer, surprising news about Detroit Red Wings player Dylan Larkin, has left fans stunned. According to a Facebook post by Hooked on Hockey Magazine, Detroit Red Wings has reportedly re-signed Dylan Larkin at over $8 million AAV. Reacting to this news, ice hockey fans gave entertaining reactions on Facebook. 

While some fans felt this was good news, other players were amazed at that massive amount to re-sign Larkin. Some fans also made intriguing comments and recommended that Larkin should be traded. So what were the details of the ‘supposed’ contract and how did fans react?

The Detroit Red Wings announced the new contract on Wednesday, 1st March 2023. This is reportedly an 8-year contract which makes Larkin the highest-paid Red Wings member on the team. Steve Yzerman, the Executive Vice President and the general manager of the Detroit Red Wings, also played a key role in this deal. Before this deal, Yzerman had also extended the contract of defenseman Jake Walman. After this deal ends, Larkin will become an unrestricted free agent in 2031. 

Moreover, no signing bonuses are included in this deal. The Detroit Red Wings are banking on their captain Larkin, who plays at the center position for the team. Larkin has played for the Detroit Red Wings for 8 NHL seasons, and is a part of the Red Wing’s game plan for the future. Responding to this deal, fans gave interesting and unique reactions to Hooked on Holiday Magazine’s recent Facebook post.

Fans were left astounded and divided on the report of the massive new deal of Dylan Larkin

One fan commented, “Way overpaid, he’s a .5 million dollar player overpaid by 4 million. Another fan echoed a similar viewpoint, “Shouldn’t be over 6.5/ 7 a year tops. Now Bratt and Meier will have their hands out because of this clown.”  Disagreeing with these views, a fan posted, “IF TRUE-good news for everyone involved.”  Another fan also expressed faith in Yzerman’s decision, saying, “Whatever Yzerman feels is the best deal.” 

Later, some fans expressed strong views that Larkin should not be a part of the Detroit Red Wings team. A fan reacted, “Why? Move on from him. He’s is the most over-rated average player out there. Worst captain Detroit has had since I can remember.” Post this, another fan wrote, “Dumb on Detroit. Trade him for picks this draft is loaded.” A fan then steered the comments thread in a different direction with a unique comment. “At least he wasn’t traded to Columbus.”
