Internationals: McGinn on target for Scotland

John McGinn found the net as he helped Scotland see off Cyprus 3-0 and get off to winning start in their bid for Euro 2024 qualification.

The Aston Villa captain fired home from close range in the 21^st minute, his 16^th goal for his country, to cap an impressive performance and put the Tartan Army on their way to all three points.

Scott McTominay subsequently struck twice late on for the hosts at Hampden Park, with Cyprus reduced to 10 men in injury time.

Victory ensures Scotland made the perfect start as they bid to qualify from Group A, with Spain up next on Tuesday (ko 7.45pm).

Jacob Ramsey was also on target as England Under-21s secured an eye-catching 4-0 friendly victory over France.

The Villa midfielder stepped off the bench in the 72nd minute and played a key role in the win as the Young Lions struck three times in the latter stages.

Ramsey received a pass in his own half and surged forward before playing the ball out wide to Noni Madueke, duly receiving it back and then firing home from seven yards in the 86th minute.

Villa team-mate Cameron Archer, currently impressing on loan at Middlesbrough, started the encounter for England and played 66 minutes.
