Carlos Corberán says Albion will fight for everything they want to achieve in these last nine games of the season, starting with Saturday’s Millwall showdown.

The Baggies host the Lions in a key Sky Bet Championship clash (ko 3pm) as the race for the Play-Offs hots up, with Corberán’s men sat five points behind their sixth-placed guests.

Albion will be buoyed by their terrific run at The Hawthorns which has seen them claim ten victories and ten clean sheets in their last 11 matches in all competitions there – the encounter against Millwall acting as the first of four remaining contests in B71.

And the boss believes representing West Bromwich Albion and the club’s supporters is all the motivation the players need ahead of a significant spell of second-tier fixtures.

The Spaniard said: “When you are a Championship player you have to have a special mentality because the division pushes you to a period like this one where you face many games in a short amount of time.

“The physical, technical, tactical and emotional challenge is high, but that’s why these players have made a career in the Championship because they have the skills to deal with it.

“To be successful in the Championship you have to have a strong mentality that allows you to be a competitive player.

“There are a lot of games to play in a short period of time, but every player wants to play games and every coach wants to be taking part in games.

“We are looking forward to this period and we’re motivated to give our best.

“You never know what is going to happen two days later in football, but we know that on Saturday, we have the opportunity to show what we are able to do on the pitch with the backing of our fans.

“We will fight for the three points.

“Representing West Bromwich Albion and the supporters of this club, that’s all the motivation we need.

“It’s a pleasure to be at this club and we all want to put West Bromwich Albion in the place where it deserves to be.”

Millwall have collected 60 points from their 38 games in the Championship so far this season and are the side occupying the fourth and final Play-Off spot heading into the latest round of matches.

The boss admits it’s a “very, very important” game and has challenged his players to focus on aspects which they are able to control in order to give them the best chance of claiming a vital victory.

Carlos continued: “We need to show our highest level of commitment and we have a responsibility to try our best to get a win, which is what we are aiming for every time we step out onto the football pitch.

“The three points are very important whether you play against a team who are ahead of you in the table or below you.

“We’ve had the international break and now we have a full desire to come back to action again, especially at home with our fans behind us.

“We’re going to compete and fight for the three points on Saturday. We couldn’t achieve that in our last game before the break down at Cardiff, and that’s made us more determined to make sure we get a victory this weekend.

“It’s a very, very important game.

“Millwall are a very competitive team and they are inside the top six because they deserve to be there.

“We’re going to respect them, just as we do every team in this division.

“We’re up against a team in the play-off positions and we have to show our best level and be focused on what we can do to get three points.

“We look for things that we can control in games and how we compete is one of those things.

“We need to be able to adapt to different scenarios in the game at different times of the game.

“We’ll give our best and try to perform at our best level. The better we perform, we know the better chance of achieving a positive result we will have.”
