A man who accidentally ordered 60 pairs of reading glasses after misreading the order has gone viral on Twitter. A picture of the dad with his huge purchase was posted by his son, prompting Specsavers to joke about the situation.

Radio personality Chris Arnold said he found it “hilarious” to see his dad open up the package, after he had wondered why it was so bulky. He posted a photo to Twitter of 61-year-old Tom Arnold looking confused as he sat on a sofa next to a pile of boxes, all filled with glasses, captioning the picture: “My Dad has accidentally bought 60 pairs of reading glasses off the internet after misreading the quantity of his order.”

Chris said the incident was “very funny indeed” and had cheered him and his family up. According to The Mirror, he said: “I just found it hilarious, he said he thought the packaging was excessive, then he opened it up and the box was full.

“He seemed confused as to what had happened. We looked at the order and he had ordered 12 packs instead of one, as they were for him and my mum plus spares. The order came to over £100 but he's managed to get a refund!”

Specsavers replied to Chris' tweet, commenting: “Do we even need to say it?" To which Chris responded: “At this point guys, I don't think you do. P.S. Are you interested in buying 59 pairs of reading glasses off my dad?”

The company joked: “If you can't shift them you might want to consider adding an extra 118 eyes to your dad's face.” It later added: “You deserve a reward for writing one of the best Specsavers ads of all time. DM us.”

Twitter users liked the idea, with the reply suggesting an advert based on the incident receiving over 600 likes. Lassie said: “Both of you should get together and convert this to a proper advert. I love SpecSavers adverts.”

Cecilia-Joy laughed: “The irony is poetic.” David quipped: “Always pays to have 59 spare pairs.” And Mo joked: “On the up side, it's unlikely to happen again.”

But The Swedish Rumble suggested the huge purchase may come in handy, writing: “I think my dad bought about 50 reading glasses once, and it was not by mistake. He placed them at all spots he could come up with, so if he ever were looking for a pair they would lay there.

"To this day, if I open the hood to a motor of one of the vehicles he used (boats, snowmobiles etc), more often than not there is a pair of glasses there neatly striped to a tube or something like that.”
