“One of the scooty riders namely Arib was declared brought dead in the hospital while another injured, identified as Irfan, 18, sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment,” said Meena.

“The crane was returning from an assignment assigned to it by an agency. The crane driver fled the spot after the incident and raids are being carried out to nab him,” added the DCP.

A senior police officer said Arib and Irfan had gone out for a short trip nearby after dinner.

A case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304A (causing death by negligence) has been filed.

“CCTV cameras installed in and around the area are being scanned to ascertain the sequence of events,” said Meena.
