After opening slightly higher, domestic markets soared on Wednesday led by gains in HDFC duo, Larsen & Toubro and FMCG stocks. BSE benchmark Sensex closed 582.87 points or 0.99 per cent at 59,689.31, while NSE’s Nifty50 soared 159 points, or 0.91 per cent to close the day at 17,557.05.
Sensex had opened 83.05 points, or 0.14 per cent higher to 59,189.49, and Nifty50 had climbed 18.50 points or 0.11 per cent to open at 17,416.55.
Broader markets were largely up as Nifty Microcap 250 jumped 1.38 per cent, while, the Nifty 100 gained 0.87 per cent, followed by the Nifty 200 at 0.75 per cent and the Nifty 500 at 0.74 per cent.
FMCG stocks were the top gainers in today’s session as the sector climbed 1.36 per cent, followed by IT stocks at 1.20 per cent. Meanwhile, Nifty Financial Services gained 1.14 per cent jumped 1.14 per cent today.
Pharma stocks climbed 0.94 per cent, while PSB stocks plunged 0.79 per cent, followed by auto stocks fell 0.55 per cent. PSU Bank and auto sector were the only sectors to end in negative today.
Larsen & Toubro jumped 4.09 per cent today after the company announced it has bagged multiple contracts worth more than Rs 7,000 crore in the Middle East region.
HDFC, HDFC Bank, ITC, Hindustan Unilever, Sun Pharma, and Titan were among the top gainers today. Meanwhile, Eicher Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, IndusInd Bank, NTPC, and Adani Enterprises were among the worst-performing stocks today.
