Leicester City’s pursuit of Graham Potter has been given a boost with interest from French side Nice waning.

Potter has long been City’s number-one choice for a permanent successor to Brendan Rodgers, and the former Brighton boss is available after leaving Chelsea in April. While now in the Championship, City are still said to have Potter at the top of their list of potential new managers.

But they are not the only club eyeing him up. Kasper Schmeichel’s Nice had been named as a potential destination for Potter as they seek to replace Didier Digard, who took over midway through the campaign.

While Digard started well, a disappointing end to the campaign, including an exit in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals, means he will not be kept on.

Potter had been touted as a potential option for Nice, as he is liked by the club’s owners INEOS, the chemicals company owned by Jim Ratcliffe, who is now bidding to buy Manchester United.

However, Nice’s sporting director Florent Ghisolfi and general director Fabrice Bocquet, are not quite as keen on Potter, RMC Sport have now reported. They are pushing to bring in Lorient’s Regis Le Bris, who guided the side to 10th in Ligue 1 this season, one place behind Nice.

RMC Sport say the cooling interest in Potter also comes amid more serious chases from English clubs including City, with fellow relegated side Leeds also looking for a new manager after Sam Allardyce’s exit. Crystal Palace are also on the lookout for a new boss if they do not re-appoint Roy Hodgson after their excellent end to the campaign.

Dean Smith, who oversaw the final few games of the season, is a candidate, while former Aston Villa and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has also been named as a possible target.
