A denim jumpsuit will be your go-to weekend 'fit from now until autumn
Dresses are one of the easiest options when you’re choosing what to wear every morning. They're one-and-done. But what's even more straight-forward than dresses? A denim jumpsuit.
We guarantee that a denim jumpsuit will, hands-down, be the essential item you’ve been looking for to solve your weekend outfit dilemmas, WFH lewks and cater for this weird should-be-summer but definitely isn't warm enough to be summer weather…
But how come a denim jumpsuit is such a hero piece? Let us count the ways. Obviously you don’t need to dedicate any brain space to picking out a matching top and bottom so that’s a big plus, although we admit you will need a bag and some shoes or trainers, if you’re leaving the house.
The comfort factor and practicality of a jumpsuit makes it an ideal choice when you are on the search for an iced latte / bottomless brunch or doing anything more strenuous than curling up on the sofa. Plus the denim fabric is the finishing touch. Denim has a magical power, found it’s workwear origins, which means that any outfit including the hard-wearing material will never look like it's trying too hard.
Right now we're doing all we can to manifest sunshine and the heatwave we keep reading about… but until then, our trans-seasonal wardrobe is in full service. We bet you're the same and are relying on seasonless foundation pieces like blazers, classic shirts, lightweight knits and jeans, that don't immediately say winter or summer but you can zhuzh up with a basket or raffia bag, sandals and pale accessories to give them a warm-weather make-over.
That's where the denim jumpsuit comes in, too. With it's anonymous trans-seasonal versatility, you really can wear it all year round. Layered over a polo-neck in the depths of winter (or, you know, now) it will keep you warm with a pair of boots - or you can roll the sleeves back, pop the collar and team with fisherman's sandals when the sun shines. Either way, it's the peak of chic.
Want more ideas on how to style a denim jumpsuit?
As always, the street style set offers rich inspiration… a strapless denim jumpsuit (we love Zara's version, £59.99) looks dressy enough for cocktails with strappy heels, a cute half-moon shoulder bag and a leather blazer over the top.

The more classic styles - that's long of leg and sleeve - will be the most versatile. We suggest wearing one of these jumpsuits (we're dreaming about Sezane's cult Brooklyn style) right now with trainers and a bright t-shirt in a clashing colour.

You could also try elevating your denim jumpsuit with a designer belt to give the day-off mood a little polish. Slipping into chunky loafers will give a dash of stealth wealth chic to this classic denim essential.
Which are our favourite denim jumpsuits for women?
This season's denim jumpsuits are a mix of super-casual wide leg styles, ideal if you're a fan of baggy jeans, through to sexier strapless styles that you can dress up with heels for nights Out Out. Marks & Spencer have created one of the hits of the season with their Autograph cream, short-sleeve jumpsuit, and we have fallen for Mango's dark denim version, with a utilitarian workwear vibe.
Denim doesn't have to be blue, so if you're ready for a Barbiecore moment, Nobody's Child has a pale pink jumpsuit in organic cotton you'll love while & Other Stories black jumpsuit is belted for serious chic. Levi's denim jumpsuit also comes in black but it's the sleeveless silhouette that caught our eye. Super useful if you're planning on layering, it will also be just thing for topping up the Vitamin D when the sun finally shines.
