Jason Quigley produced a strong performance but ultimately fell to a unanimous defeat against Edgar Berlanga in their super middleweight bout at Madison Square Garden.

Quigley (now 20-3-0) went the full 12 rounds with the unbeaten home favourite, who had been fancied to make light work of the Donegal man.

However, with Andy Lee in his corner, Quigley managed to frustrate Berlanga (26) with smart defence and good use of his jab.

Quigley was dropped for the first of four times at the end of the third round and was knocked down again in the fifth, although replays showed he had tripped over his own feet.

Quigley then shook his opponent with a brilliant sixth round and maintained that momentum in the seventh.

Ultimately, the 32-year-old ran out of gas, with Berlanga dropping him twice when going on an all-out attack in the final round to extend his flawless pro record to 21-0-0.
