Police lock down city centre after stabbings in Surbiton - Locals warned to ‘stay away’

Surrey Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempt murder after two people were stabbed earlier today in Surbiton.

A man has been arrested for attempted murder after two people were stabbed in Surrey this afternoon. The attack took place in broad daylight at around 1.45pm. Surrey Police confirmed the arrest, which is believed to have been an "isolated incident".

They had earlier shut down the area and urged the public to stay away until further notice.

One of the victims is believed to have been assaulted at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Portsmouth Road.

The second victim was attacked at the BMW garage next door on the same road.

Both victims were rushed to hospital following the incident in Long Ditton.

Following the arrest, the police released a statement reading: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempt murder after two people were stabbed around 1.45pm this afternoon (9 July)."

The statement continued: "They have both been taken to hospital following the incident.

"One person is believed to have been assaulted at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Portsmouth Road while the other man was attacked at the BMW garage next door.

"While we appreciate that this may be extremely concerning, we would like to reassure you that we believe this was an isolated incident.

"An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the incident and remains ongoing."

Witnesses report a very large police presence in the area.

The police have urged any witnesses to come forward, quoting reference PR/SYP-20230709-0431.
