A huge fire is spreading rapidly across the Station Hotel as our reporter tells of an explosion.

An explosion has been heard from inside the Station Hotel in Ayr as crews battle a huge fire.

The crumbling building has gone up in flames tonight sparking a huge emergency response.

Fire chiefs have told how they've sent 13 appliances with dozens of firefighters trying to battle the flames.

Shock footage has captured the roof collapsing as the old clock tower is completely destroyed during the inferno.

Firefighters can be seen tackling the flames from above as they try to control the rapidly spreading blaze.

Ayrshire Live reporter Stuart Wilson is currently at the scene and described hearing a loud explosion coming from the building.

Stuart said: "I’ve heard a loud explosion, it was like something exploded inside the hotel.

“The fire is spreading rapidly, it is smouldering within the white dome.

“The clock tower at the front has already completely gone.

“It is really serious, there will be very little left of this building after tonight.

“It sounds like the floors are just collapsing, you kept hearing a loud crashing noise.
