Michael Beale risks Rangers dressing room rumblings with 'too negative' Motherwell public post mortem

The Londoner admitted after the win against Motherwell that he and his players weren't happy.

Michael Beale was 'too negative' about Rangers following a win over Motherwell and he would be best placed keeping a lid on the feel of the Ibrox dressing room.

The Londoner came in for heavy fire before the international break after losing to Celtic and being humbled in the Champions League but has since won three on the spin including seeing off Real Betis in the Europa League on Thursday. But boos rang around Govan at close of play on Sunday after Cyriel Dessers' strike sealed the narrow win against the Steelmen, with Beale himself moving to suggest his side did not play well, were not enjoyable to watch and his squad didn't enjoy the match.

It's those words that have former Celtic boss Neil Lennon wondering why those kind of chats aren't kept in house, especially after Beale's men had what the Northern Irishman called a 'good week'. Lennon reckons some in the Ibrox dressing room would have find the Englishman's post-match verdict a bitter pill to swallow and that he must savour the wins he gets.

He told PLZ Soccer: "It was too negative for me. Michael might be feeling that himself but I think they've had a good week. Beat a good team on Thursday night. It's always difficult playing Thursday-Sunday, they beat a very good Spanish team to give them a good start in the group. And they beat a very good Motherwell team, albeit not a vintage performance, but they will be thankful for those three points down the line.

"There is a general malaise at the moment around Rangers, I don't know what people expect at times. They're looking for result and performance and you don't always get that after a big European night...they have to enjoy the wins, that's a good win for me. Albeit the performance isn't great, the fans are impatient.

"Putting that out in the public domain is not a good look, the players will be looking at this going 'C'mon gaffer, we just had two really good wins there and you're out there saying this isn't good enough'. I get it to a certain degree, you can say that in the dressing room but you have to come out and be positive even if people shoot you down and say you're talking rubbish."
