Former Scotland and Everton striker Duncan Ferguson has reportedly agreed to become the new boss of Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Scottish Championship side sacked former boss Billy Dodds after a poor start to the campaign, despite the former Rangers man leading the Highlanders to the Scottish Cup final against Celtic last season. Ferguson was given his first managerial job at eco-friendly Forest Green Rovers in England but found himself sacked after just six months at the New Lawn.

But now according to Sky Sports, the former Scotland international is set to be unveiled by Caley on Tuesday, with an agreement for him to become the club's new manager already 'agreed'. It comes after Record Sport reported that Celtic B Team boss Darren O'Dea declared himself not in the running to replace Dodds.

O'Dea instead opted to remain within the Parkhead ranks with the Scottish Championship club granted permission to speak to the Irishman, yet talks never took place. A source close to O’Dea stated: “Darren was flattered by the approach but it isn’t something he is interested in at this point and has taken himself out of the running.”

The likes of former Hibs assistant Jamie McAllister and Morton boss Dougie Imrie were also said to be in the frame according to reports, but it appears Ferguson will be the man to arrive at the Caledonian Stadium.
