Residents near Station Hotel told to 'close windows and doors' as crews tackle huge fire

Scottish Fire and Rescue have confirmed that 15 appliances are at the scene.

Residents living near the Station Hotel in Ayr have been told to close their windows and doors as crews tackle a huge fire that has ripped through the historic building tonight.

Emergency crews were scrambled to the scene at 5.37pm with the blaze taking hold of the roof of the building and ravaging the old clock tower.

A total of 15 appliances have been called to the scene with firefighters desperately trying to extinguish flames which have torn through the protective white covering that encased the dangerous building.

Scottish Fire and Rescue have confirmed that there are no causalities but sent out a precautionary warning to locals who stay close to the site.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: "We were alerted at 5.37 pm on Monday, September 25 to reports of a fire within the Station Hotel, Ayr.

"Operations control has mobilised 15 appliances to the scene where crews are working to extinguish the fire.

"Members of the public in nearby housing are advised to close windows and doors as a precaution. "No casualties have been reported at this time."
