A British man has reportedly been stabbed to death in Portugal.
The 36-year-old man, who has not been identified, was said to have been found dead in a forest near the town of Pedrogao Grande, while a 26-year-old man is said to have handed himself in to police.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office have said they are liaising with the local authorities.
A spokesperson said: “We are providing consular assistance following an incident in Portugal and are in contact with the local authorities.”
According to reports in Sky News and local Portuguese media, the 26-year-old man is one of a group of three people being interviewed by police in connection with the death.
The Sky News report says that the group are believed to have been playing an online challenge known as the “Blue Whale Challenge”, which involves a series of dangerous challenges that has been linked to several deaths around the world.
A man has reportedly been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
